IBM

IBM stands for International Business Machines - an American company which made its name in the early days of computing offering Mainframe server solutions and software. Today, IBM has grown into one of the largest hardware and software vendors and has also grown world class services capability. IBM invented the "PC" but actually no longer makes them. IBM has managed to retain a focus on supporting it's customers' businesses - offering complete solutions including software, hardware and services.

Desktops
The first personal computers (PCs) were launched in 1981 by IBM. In designing the PC, the newly formed division within IBM decided to collaborate with an established chip manufacturer to help with the internal architecture called Intel. For the operating system, IBM turned to a virtually unheard of and very young company - called Microsoft.
