motherboard

The term motherboard describes the main circuit board within a system - a flat board onto which the core electronic components for the system are placed - interconnected by electrical tracks. The system can be expanded by adding other circuit boards called daughter boards - which are inserted into sockets on the motherboard - or by simply connecting devices through cables and connectors.

Desktops
The first personal computers (PCs) were launched in 1981 by IBM. In designing the PC, the newly formed division within IBM decided to collaborate with an established chip manufacturer to help with the internal architecture called Intel. For the operating system, IBM turned to a virtually unheard of and very young company - called Microsoft.
