RAID

RAID - Redundant Array of Inexpensive* Disks. Technology which enables data to be written to a number of hard drives such that performance may be increased and/or the data is protected against failure of one or more drives. Depending on the need, a range of RAID "levels" exist. RAID levels 1,5 and 6 are common within servers.

*Note: Inexpensive sometimes replaced by Independent.
